Working with Metal and the Environment

There is something deeply satisfying with the act of using one's hands. Bending metal with one's fingers or palms is almost spiritual, it is that connection with the material you are working with. As you are molding it, you are in fact claiming it and there is something powerful in that.
Working with metal lets me reconnect to my past. Growing up as a child I was always surrounded with rusty metal of some sort. My brother use to buy old cars to do them up to sell, however many lay in our backyard only to rust and deteriorate to a shell of what they once were. Living in the outback you are constantly bombarded with tin sheds, rusty barbed wire, sheets of corrugated iron roofing, car bodies and parts, etc.
I mean how can you not be affected by the land you grew up on? The heat, drought, dry and dead grasses almost golden in colour, the rich colourful soil in almost sunset colour combinations. Lush tropical rainforests with vibrant greens and iridescent blues.
This series focuses on capturing elements of that experience.
