Digital Prints

Picture
It has been a pretty busy couple of months in the studio and I seem to have gotten into a real rhythm with producing work. Loving this digital series i am working on which takes classical images and puts a modern spin on them. And by modern I mean strong bold colour explosions melted with patterns,  geometric lines and symbols.

Started on this new piece a few days ago and I  really like how it is coming together. I wanted to have the image repeat itself a couple of times with some contrast in colour combinations.
I love green and so I had to repeat the main image in green on the right side to kind of represent a sense of past and deeper connection. I also like how the image sinks back into the work.
I'm inspired by artist John Coburn from my childhood and so wanted to take some of his shapes (see image below)  and morph an object in black which kind of hugs it's arm around the central figure. I like having the idea that this is a being of some type and there is
something contemporary about it connecting the old with the new.
Next I want to mess around with the text at the bottom of the work , I really like the font and balance it brings to the work but might change some letters around. I would like to add some small details and flowers to the work but I don't think it is too far from completion.
I also want to leave some spaces through the work so that if I want to come back later and hand embellish or screen print over the work then I have that option to.

This piece is called The Goddess and there is something really beautiful and wonderful about her. She is clothed yet there are sections of her that are naked. She is classical in so many ways but there are elements of her that are wild and primitive. She is strong, fierce and powerful in spirit. In this hand embellished version I have screen printed a selection of gold flowers which drape around her shoulder and flow down her bust acting as a veil .

Calculating the Heart Break is what this piece is titled and by looking at it you can definitely see it. She is deep in thought pondering over her feelings and deciding what to do next. Weighing up how she feels in her heart but also thinking with her head calculating options. I repeated her face in different sizes to show different levels of intensity and focus.  Sometimes feeling strong in her decision but other times not so sure. Haven't we all been in this situation before at some stage?

I have been really enjoying making digital art over the last couple of years but there is a pull to do some large abstract paintings which I have commenced. The piece above is the largest I have done so far and really love how it turned out. Lots of wonderful green tones to represent the forest.
I will be sharing lots more of my process on a few different social platforms - TikTok and Instagram as well as blogging here.
